Siena Catholic Primary School is looking for a fluent Italian-speaking classroom assistant/ educational support officer (ESO) to help embed an exciting contemporary approach to language learning. This position is initially for 2023. Salary and conditions are implemented according to the Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2018.

In 2023, we continue our journey of Teachers as Co-learners in Italian, an innovative approach to language teaching. Rather than the traditional method of a single language lesson once a week, all our students and teachers will have a short, daily Italian language lesson. This model of partial immersion aims to build students and staff capacity to use functional Italian language every day at Siena.

The Applicant will:

• Be an enthusiastic, energetic Italian speaker.

• Provide support in the acquisition of Italian for both staff and students of Siena.

• Be supported to create teaching resources such as mini videos and word games.

• Work with staff and students to develop and embed the Italian language.

• Be embraced by a warm and experienced staff.

• Be required to present a Working with Children Check & Covid Vaccination Certificate by January 2022, adhering to all Child Safety processes and policies of the school found under the Policies tab on our website.


The applicant does not require any teaching qualifications but rather will adhere to the position requirements of Education Support Officer (Classroom assistant).

The applicant does not have to be Catholic but must be willing to support the Catholic ethos of the school.

This position would be ideal for a parent of school-aged children as you automatically receive paid school holidays and the working hours can be discussed, however ideally we are looking for someone to work 6 hours across 2 days.

There is also the possibility that this role could be carried out in a comination of remote and onsite.
